Residents in the greater Shelter Cove and Southern Humboldt areas who want free chipper services are encouraged to sign up online today. You will be notified as soon as enough homes are signed up in your neighborhood for a local chipper crew from Lost Coast Tree and Habitat to chip your debris piles. This grant-funded program was responsible for chipping 900 piles (equivalent to 5,700 cubic yards) for area residents last year, making Southern Humboldt better prepared for wildfire season.

Vegetation Material can be up to 8 inches in diameter and 5 feet long and must be stacked neatly in approximately 5x5x5’ piles with cut ends of branches facing toward the street, driveway, or turnout so that it can be easily picked up and placed in the chipper. Crews can spend up to one hour per household, which equates to roughly eight neatly stacked piles. For more information view the CHIPPING GUIDELINES and fill out the interest form to sign up for service in your neighborhood.

This program is brought to you by the Humboldt County Department of Public Works on behalf of the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council and in partnership with the Shelter Cove Resort Improvement District, Trees Foundation, and Southern Humboldt Fire Safe Council. Funding for this program is provided by CAL FIRE’s Fire Prevention Program through the California Climate Investments Program.
